Support with the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
Phonics is a way of teaching children to read and Music Federation schools use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Scheme. The resources on this page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.
For additional videos and resources, you can visit the Little Wandle website-

What is the Phonics Screening Check?
Children complete a word-reading check at the end of Year 1 so that parents can be confident their children are being taught to read successfully.
Children read 40 words. It takes between two and five minutes.
If they do not manage to read 32 of the words, they are given extra support, and repeat the check at the end of Year 2.
The 'pass' mark of 32 is subject to change by the government and schools will be notified some time in June of this figure.
