Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to age 5 in England. For children aged 0–5, the curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity, build foundational skills, and support holistic development in a safe and stimulating environment.

The curriculum is divided into seven areas, with a strong focus on the three prime areas for younger children:

Prime Areas (especially vital for ages 0–3):

  • Communication and Language: Developing listening, attention, understanding, and speaking.

  • Physical Development: Improving coordination, control, and movement; understanding health and self-care.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Building self-confidence, managing feelings, and forming relationships.

Specific Areas (introduced gradually as children grow):

  • Literacy: Enjoying stories, rhymes, and beginning to recognize letters and

       sounds.

  • Mathematics: Exploring numbers, patterns, shapes, and measurements.

  • Understanding the World: Learning about people, places, technology, and

       the environment.

  • Expressive Arts and Design: Engaging in creative activities like music, dance,

       and imaginative play.

At the heart of the curriculum are the Characteristics of Effective Learning—these

shape how children explore, discover, and grow as learners through each stage of their early development.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

Children are encouraged to:

  • Play and explore: Investigate and experience things.

  • Actively learn: Concentrate and keep trying.

  • Create and think critically: Develop their own ideas and strategies

Daycare

Our Daycare Curriculum is thoughtfully structured across four learning rooms, each tailored to support children's unique developmental journeys. While each room has its own focus, they are intentionally interconnected to reflect our understanding that children grow and learn at different rates. Every space places strong emphasis on the Prime Areas of Learning—particularly Communication and Language, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We nurture these skills through rich, hands-on experiences including interactive activities, storytelling, real-world exploration, enrichment opportunities, and joyful celebrations.

Reception

Our Reception Curriculum continues to emphasise the importance of the Prime Areas of Learning, while placing a strong focus on the Specific Areas to deepen children's knowledge and skills. Children benefit from daily, structured teaching in phonics, writing, and mathematics, ensuring a solid foundation for literacy and numeracy. Stories remain central to our approach, inspiring curiosity and imagination, while first-hand experiences, enriched activities, and purposeful enhancements allow children to apply their learning in meaningful ways. As part of our creative development, children explore the work of a chosen artist, practise key artistic techniques, and use these skills to inform their own expressive creations. Additionally, our daily Poetry Basket sessions support memory, rhythm, and performance, helping children develop confidence and a love for language.
